Resistance

Resistance Songs

In response to the political situation of 2017, I’m adding this page.

More songs and poems on other pages could also be here since the issues have been with us all along, but this page is more focused on resistance.

I’m happy to sing or lead these songs at rallies or for others to use them appropriately. Please contact me (contact page).

Glad:    I’m singing basically the same lyrics to two different tunes.  I first wrote them for the tune to “The Leaving of Liverpool.” Then I mad up a new tune.  Here’s the new tune with the slightly revised words.  Then the other version. I am working on the musical score and can send it to anyone interested.

Glad to Be in the Resistance Now         Stephen Miller
chorus:
We’re  glad we’re in the resistance now
As we look to a new and brighter day
Join with people all around our planet earth
To resist injustice come what may.

We must speak the truth to every power on earth;
We speak truth beyond all we fear
To those who think they can control our lives
We sing out loud and sing out clear.
chorus

Our planet suffers climate chaos,
We know we all are to blame
So we come together to resist and act
In our wondrous Mother Earth’s good name.
chorus

For our planet and all creatures of our earth
We work for justice now and here.
We pledge ourselves to solidarity
With those who in need who live in fear.
chorus

Our great love unites us with all life on earth,
Even as we see so much that’s wrong
So we must resist all negativity
With the power of love that makes us strong

chorus   tag:  Let’s resist injustice come what may.

I’m (We’re) Glad to Be In the Resistance Now  (to the tune of “The Leaving of Liverpool”)

We must speak the truth to every power on earth;
We speak truth beyond all we fear
To those who think they can control our lives
We sing out loud and sing out clear.

chorus:
Oh, I’m glad I’m in the resistance now
As we look to a new and brighter day
Join with people all around our planet earth
To resist injustice come what may.

Now, our planet suffers climate chaos,
And we know we all are to blame
So we come together to resist and act
In our wondrous Mother Earth’s good name.
chorus

For our planet and all creatures of our earth
We work for justice now and here.
We pledge ourselves to solidarity
With those who in need who live in fear.
chorus

Our great love unites us with all life on earth,
Even as we see so much that’s wrong
So we must resist all negativity
With the power of love that makes us strong

“We Are Sisters, We Are Brothers”    – Stephen Miller
(a zipper song – zip in verses to fit the message; the chorus remains the same)

We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.
When they come for our neighbors far away
We know what we have got to say:
We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.
When some propose policies of hate
We will act before it is too late.
We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.
In partnership with earth we will stand
with all species in the sea and on the land
We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.
When rights we have gained are rolled back
We non-violently and forcefully attack
We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.
To stop injustice we must insist
We will solidly nonviolently resist
We are sisters we are brothers; planet earth is our mother.
We are sisters we are brothers we join strongly with each other.

More potential verses (possibilities are endless)
To really live we all have to share
Bringing justice to the world everywhere.

We hold hands with all people of the earth.
We value every person’s worth.

Justice scales will balance for all
Let us hear Love’s strong call.

Every nation, every clan, and every creed
Are united when one thing is agreed:

We pray for our neighbor far away
And our actions give voice to all we pray.

When we love and truly learn to care
Then justice and love become our prayer

Loving justice will surely prevail
As the power of love cannot fail

To really live we all have to share
Bringing justice to the world everywhere.

Keep On Keeping On  (Stephen Miller)

The road to peace goes on, friends;   We know that it is long.
And everywhere we look, friends,   We see so much that’s wrong.
We see so much that’s wrong.

But keep on keeping on, friends,   Keep on keeping on.
Know that peace will win, friends,   So keep on keeping on.
Keep on keeping on.

We’d like to save our planet    From ourselves and all the rest
But it seems like such a challenge    To give the earth our best.
To give the earth our best.

Well, keep on keeping on, friends,    Keep on keeping on.
Know that life will win, friends,     So keep on keeping on.
Yes, keep on keeping on.

Our climate is in chaos     With drought and acid rain
More storms and rising oceans    Mother Earth expresses pain.
Mother Earth expresses pain.

But keep on keeping on, friends,    Keep on keeping on.
Know that hope will win, friends,     So keep on keeping on.
Keep on keeping on.

Now we exploit our planet       Using up the earth —
We want to stop polluting    And work for life’s new birth
And work for life’s new birth

So keep on keeping on, friends,  Keep on keeping on.
Know that love will win, friends,   So keep on keeping on.
Keep on keeping on.
